Benard Joe Appeah

Mr. Bernard Joe Appeah is the Chief Executive Officer of Pentax Management Consultancy Services Limited and Pentax Realty Limited in Ghana. He is an accomplished Development Management Consultant, Trainer and Motivational Speaker with both Local and International work experience.

He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration (1994) and an Honors Bachelors Degree in Economics with Statistics (1987) both from the University of Ghana.  Additionally, he holds a Diploma in Investment Management (1990) from Turin, Italy, Post Experience Certificate in Project Management (1992) from the University of Bradford, England and a Diploma in Adult Training and Facilitation Skills (1997) from Aarhus, Denmark. He has attended and made presentations at several Local and International workshops.

Prior to establishing his own Management, Development and Financial Services Consultancy and Training Firm in 1997, Mr. Appeah worked as Tutor in a Senior High School (1983 and 1987), District Budget Officer with the Ministry of Finance, part of the core team that developed the Central Regional Integrated Programme and worked with CEDECOM as a  Principal Officer with the Enterprise Development and later Investment Promotion Units (1989 – 1995), taught as a Part-time Lecturer at the Business School of the University of Cape-Coast (1995 – 1996), worked as a Senior Financial Analyst at the Corporate Planning Department of the Ghana Water Company (1996 – 1998) and as Principal Consultant and first permanent Lecturer at the National Banking College (1994 – 1996).

 

His professional areas of expertise are in the areas of Human Resource Management, Adult Training and Facilitation, Decentralization and Local Governance, Corporate Governance, Investment Management, Business Process Reengineering, Business and Strategic Plans Development, Institutional Review, Monitoring and Evaluation, Microfinance and Small Business Enterprises Development. At the local level, Mr. Appeah has consulted for numerous Traditional Banks on Human Capital Development and Employee Resourcing for Government Institutions including Ministries and State-Owned Enterprises, Parastatals, Non-Governmental Organizations and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

 

Mr. Appeah has undertaken various Employee Resourcing, Institutional Review and Assessment of Institutions including Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) since 2011 where he serves as External Panel Member/Consultant in conducting Interviews from Manager to Director level.  The Principal of Consultant has been involved in Positive Attitude and “Can Do Mindsets” and Customer Care trainings for the ECG.

He led the Pentax team that provided Professional Counselling to all Staff of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) prior to 1st February, 2019 to ensure each Staff fully understand the issues, aware of the facts related to the Concession Agreement and the Private Participation in Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

 

He has been involved in the development of Strategic Plans for many organisations including the Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ), Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA), Ghana National Fire Service, National Banking College, Ghana, the Judicial Services of Ghana, the National Association of Local Authorities Ghana (NALAG), many Rural and Community Banks among others.

 

Mr. Appeah has additionally undertaken various Strategic Plan development, Institutional Review and Assessment of Institutions including the African Union where he led the team that developed the Service Charter for the Commission, the Ghana Microfinance Institutions Network (GHAMFIN), the Association of Rural Banks, ARB/Apex Bank Limited, National Association of Local Authorities Ghana (NALAG), the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MOFEP).

 

Internationally and for Development Partners in Ghana  Mr. Appeah has worked as a Consultant for Clients including the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the European Union (EU), the World Bank (IDA), Department for International Development (DFID), German Development Cooperation (GIZ), Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), African Development Bank (AfDB), Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), ECOWAS in Abuja, Nigeria.

Mr. Appeah has been a team member in two Governmental Missions. One to parts of Africa and Latin America on best Microfinance practising Countries that led to the development of the Ghana Microfinance Policy (GHAMP) document in 2005/6 and the other, a Regional Investment Promotion tour to parts of    Asia in 2010. He is currently the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Ghana Microfinance Institutions Network (GHAMFIN) and the Centre for Local Governance Advocacy (CLGA).

On Corporate Governance, Mr. Appeah has served on over thirty (30) Boards of Institutions ranging from Education, Financial, Insurance, Pharmaceutical, Hospitality, Private Institutions, Churches, Training Organisations as well as Ministerial Advisory Boards namely the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the erstwhile Ministry for Private Sector Development over fifteen (15) of which he has presided as a Board Chairman both within and outside Ghana. He is the immediate past Board Chairman of Swedru Senior High School and currently chairs and serves on several Boards including the Ghana Police Hospital, GLICO Group and GLICO Life Insurance Company, Assemblies of God Institute of Higher Learning, Centre for Local Government Advocacy, Manna Height Hotel, Mankessim and the Ghana Microfinance Institutions Network (GHAMFIN).

 

He is an astute entrepreneur, a philanthropist, a focused man with a development mindset.  Indeed, He is also a community development activist, a strict disciplinarian, a Christian and a native of Agona-Duakwa in the Central Region of Ghana. He is married with five (5) Children and has travelled extensively in Africa, the Americas, Europe and Asia.
